Lola Spearhead - Lola broke him, leading him to fully embrace the monster inside.
Simon was born into a sizable noble family. He was the fourth child out of seven, resulting in him frequently blending into the crowd and being neglected. As life went on, all of his brothers went to specialization school and started successful model noble businesses. Flunking out of secondary school, Simon became the black sheep.
Envy drove Simon to distance himself away from them all; He vowed to not spend as lavishly as his siblings, acrewing as much expendable wealth as possible; He was frugal and stingy to a self-destructive extent. He started a snake oil business that became a small fad amongst the youth, jumpstarting an economic strategy of haphazard and poorly thought out investments.
During a party, he met Lola. It was love at first sight. He broke his own vows and spent large amounts on pleasing her. She was giving him the deeper attention he had always desired from his family. A year later, he got her pregnant. He was ecstatic to have a family of his own.
However, Simon couldn't keep up high spirits. As he started working overtime and expanding his empire, Lola started to drink Stem Rum every night. When he got home, the house would always be a mess, Lola would always be blacked out, and nothing was getting done. This stress translated to his growing empire down in the southwest region of Stem City. He began harshly cracking down on his off-worlder employees whenever there was even a sign of instability in their force. His subconscious biases became conscious.
After Romeo was born, Lola spiraled into an even deeper depression. Yet again, the stressed out Simon couldn't handle seeing the idealistic future he had envisioned fall around him, so work became even more brutal and inhumanely mechanical as he worked overtime. Gifts made her happy before, so Simon would accrue even more money for even more gifts... That she would eventually just throw into their storage room, never looking at again. His employees were mere objects to him now, their sole purpose to serve him and his ambitions to please his spouse.
The ram's business empire started to fall apart as it seemed impossible to keep employees for longer than a month. Yet, due to lower classes needing jobs and Simon's production companies managing to obtain roles in major production pipelines, his businesses miraculously stayed afloat.
Simon couldn't help to blame Romeo for this. The child always seemed to have a dumb look on his face on the rare occasions he came home early enough to see Romeo awake. When Lola told Simon that the then 8 year old Romeo had flunked out of secondary school, he had his first violent outrage. They became increasingly more common from then.
When Romeo had just become a preteen, the child admitted to his mostly absent father during a rare alone time that Lola had been bringing him along to visit their neighbor all the time.
Simon snapped. A week full of fighting followed, Lola eventually leaving her husband and son for good. Simon blamed it all on Romeo, screaming and shouting at the child hiding behind a locked door. Simon would've liked to break down the door to properly punish his son, but on the wood was a mural; A painting he made for Lola depicting the dream he held of an idealistic family. Despite the monster he had become, the last bits of hope inside couldn't bring itself to break the wood.
So, not knowing how to carry on, the massive ram reverted back to his old ways and focused on the Mark. It was the only thing that had ever given him any concrete sense of worth.
Any time he saw Romeo, he was filled with rage and took it out on the small child both physically and mentally. He didn't care to help the child at all beyond feeding and sheltering him. Some years after Lola left, a now fully deranged and disconnected Simon attempted to receive vengeance by butchering their neighbor's genitals. He hid the bled out body in the sewers, leaving the lonely man to rot.
After Romeo turned 23, Simon figured Romeo had a use. He made a deal with Romeo; He'd give the boy a benevolent loan and ask him to operate an old china store he purchased a few years back. If he failed to polish up the store and pay a weekly tax, then Romeo would move out and become a permanent resident down at one of Simon's bag production plants.
During One Week in Stem City, the beast that was once named Simon J. Spearhead fell.
