Ann is stoic. She's all business and is emotionally apathetic towards everybody in her life. Her sense of humor is practically non-existent. She's incredibly resistant to expressing herself. Deep inside, there's a lot of self-hatred that's been sealed far, far down.
She works as possibly the second most important job in Stem City: Nexus manager.
Godgrilla - Her lost partner-in-crime. After the accident, her mind has tried to forget about him.
Blema Von Voldark - Her current boss. Blema is a boss to her, nothing more.
Lord Frie IX of Stems - Her ex-boss. Lord Frie was a boss to her, nothing more.
Stephill Frie X of Stems - She was run through his business course after school. From what she remembers, he was kind of a dick to his students.
Jerry "Peepaw" Spinner - One of many Stemrail employees whom she values highly due to his great employee history. She personally paid for his life-saving off-world surgery after his accident.
Ann Peelo was born in a strict family who swamped her with schoolwork in an attempt to hopefully boost their economic class. Thankfully, she had a natural knack for math and money and went on to specialize in business. After normal Shroom's Academy school, her controlling parents forced her to sign up to Stephill Frie's 3 year internship. By the end of it, she knew the ins and outs of all of Stem City's economy. Ann refused the job offer from Stephill, though. She liked the idea of freelancing much more.
She had no issue getting jobs after school. Against her family's pleas, she marketed herself mostly as an accountant for many poorer businesses in Stem City. Over the years, she realized many of the issues the poor face. Less time was spent hanging out at home and more time was spent embroiling herself in the interesting foreign punk culture of Stem City's wild streets.
Many locals hated seeing her around because she was a noble and she didn't truly "understand" their struggles, but she didn't care. Her entire life had been clean and sanitized by her parents; This whole life was liberating to the inner rebel inside of her fleshy shell.
When she was just turning 23, she met a brazen man named Godgrilla. He worked at a Deli across the city and he was going through some family issues. The two bonded quickly, Ann and Godgrilla becoming more and more delinquent every day. They came into contact with young Under the Tower criminals who came to be apart of their little punk crew.
One day, Godgrilla and Ann were lead through the sewer system by their unlawful friends. They ended up out of the Stem City walls, the nature nothing short of majestic to the punks. In that moment, Ann Peelo realized that there was more to life than money. There was a real world outside the confines of Stem City.
The accident happened. The tram came out of nowhere. If Ann was standing a little closer to Godgrilla, then...
She watched in horror as Godgrilla spazzed on the ground. There was a massive gash across his face.
Ann didn't know what to do.
She took his body and wrapped his wounds in her clothing. If she told their punk friends what had happened, what would they think?
If her parents found out, what would they think?
She crawled out of the sewage system. In a panic, she left the wounded Godgrilla on the darkened streets of Stem City. She ran back home and locked herself inside of her room. She didn't know what to do. She was horrified.
Days turned into weeks. To her parent's delight, she crawled herself out of isolation and started focusing her efforts more on helping local noble businesses with their money. Each waking moment of her life, she thought back to Godgrilla's unconscious face. She survived. She shouldn't have survived. She was cowardly enough to leave him out. She...
Ann's family was ecstatic when Stem Tower scientist Yank Yenderson appeared at their doorstep. He explained that he was coming in Lord Frie's place to offer Ann Peelo a job as the new Nexus management. She didn't know why she had been selected, but...
She took the job.
It took a while to get the hang of, but her business oriented mind snapped everything together quite fast. She had one of the best single paying jobs in Stem City, a wonderous luxury suite in the Nexus all to herself, and her family was beyond satisfied with her. Why did she feel so guilty? Why did she hate herself so much? Each day, it became harder to remember why. A face she once passionately remembered became nothing but a black void in her memory. Looking at the Stemrail trains made her uncomfortable for the longest time.
Two decades passed. Ann felt like she was as robotic as the Lawmen she worked with. She rarely came to the social events Blema invited her to, leaving extremely early if she did come. Something inside of her had been telling her for the past two decades that she didn't deserve to be seen out in public, that she didn't deserve to be here.
One day, Blema came with a gift. She offered a small painting kit that she had been gifted but didn't want. Ann only took it out of formality.
Ann couldn't tell anybody why she did what she did. She started to paint. She tried to remember details. It was just the Fungal Wilds horizon and a Stemrail at first. Over the years, though, she added more. A speeding train, a figure. Sometimes there was blood, sometimes there was no train.
She cast aside each and every painting when she got to the figure's face. It always ended up as a big white spot that she intended to paint later. That time never came.
