Teis is a selectively mute woman who has a ferocious temper that she passionately channels into her work. She takes zero nonsense or semantics; in her eyes, if something isn't working well, it shouldn't be done at all. She has an inclination to lean towards violent threats and intimidation to solve any potential issues.
Despite her prickly outwardly personality during working hours, Teis' attitude deflates when she gets the rare chance she's off the clock and will often go in and out of deep sleep.
Teis knows basic sign language but refuses to use it.
She taught herself how to write and knows how to write fast.
In her free time, she likes watching off-world slapstick cartoons.
The dark makes her feel safe.
Teis currently works as Under the Tower's business executive. She is, for all intents and purposes, the prominent leader of the organized crime syndicate's activities. She works to an unhealthy degree, usually working 20 hours a day. No nonsense, she has a pretty iron grip over what goes on in the island wide syndicate. Her abode is a vacant room in the sewers underneath the Under the Tower club.
Born into a middle-class noble family during the Era of The Squeeze, a young Teis found herself sold off to the Under the Tower syndicate before she was even out of primary school. Locked in dark rooms with other children, her days were spent being sedated and numb beyond belief.
She remembers the room lighting up, noblemen coming in, and high-class noblemen using their numbed bodies. Every night when she went to bed, somebody in the room was crying. Those who cried were often whipped. If she stayed quiet, she wouldn't get hit.
She stayed quiet.
At the age of 10, Teis watched her best friend get whipped. His eye burst open from the impact, and blood covered her face. There was a lot of screaming and crying. After that night, she never saw him again.
Everybody was afraid to speak up, but she was the only one who wasn't afraid to do something. In the dark, she rallied the rest of the shackled children. The next time their caretaker came in to feed them, they pulled the man down, clawed out his eyes with their uncut fingernails, tore open his skin with their sharp teeth, and stole his ring of keys.
The children escaped from their shack into the vast Fungal Plains. Scouting Lawairs discovered the group of noble children beyond the Stem City walls and brought them home. When they arrived back at the neighborhood, she was escorted back to her family; she never saw any of her follow prisoners ever again.
Her family acted as if she was too young to remember them. She remembered them. She remembered what they did to her. Something was wrong with her. They got Teis a therapist, but it didn't help. Teis couldn't speak. She had no heart left. She couldn't communicate.
No matter how many times she had yelled out for help, nobody came. Words were useless, and actions were irreversible.
At 14 years old, Teis ventured out into the city alone in a depressive episode. She talked to local gangs, hobos, and fast food employees about who would set up such a slavery shack. She soon arrived at the answer: Under the Tower was the culprit who ran sex trafficking rings. Teis started to frequent their headquarters, an underground bar.
For years, she methodically took notes on the employees, their schedules, their dealings, and most importantly, who ran what.
Teis was 20 when she enacted her plan. She slaughtered every single high-ranking Under the Tower officer on the day of a vital meeting. It was only her and Eyeguy in that backroom.
Instead of pleading for his life, he offered her a job. Given her targeted attack being one of vengeance, he assumed that after her rampage, she would have no purpose. Why not take their positions and do what they could not do?
Teis saw the truth in what he said. After that night, she reformed policies, shut down operations, had those who benefited killed, and dismantled the entire command structure. Blema opened up the drug and bounty hunting industries, with Teis focusing Under the Tower's resources on these newly opened markets. There were quite a few bumps along the way, but Teis always saw that people were on the same page as her.
For the past decade, Under the Tower has gone from an oppressive and predatory criminal empire to a business that's willing to bend and break the law to make a profit and be efficient. Teis' business plans have made dozens of local businesses loyal to their services in order to not be trampled on by smaller gangs.
Eyeguy - She hates him for what he's allowed the syndicate to do in the past. The only reason she keeps him alive is just so all rival gangs attempt to kill him instead of her.
Tez Rullup - Best friends. He respects her boundaries and brings her food. That's all she needs.
Clara Kalstein - Employee and occasional house guest. She likes Clara's go-getter attitude.
Mil'ee Yik Wash - One of the many Felgood farmers she checks up on periodically. She thinks he looks ugly.
Doreequa VII - Some rude troublemaker that she has Tez deal with.
Jamison "The Unifier" Von Galax - One of the only nobles that she does direct business with, as he is an influential man who buys up Stem Slimes they capture; it doesn't matter how much it costs.
